If you have just adopted a dog, you will find that feeding it on commercial foods is not sustainable, hence the reason for the homemade ones.

When it comes to the homemade dog food recipes, there is a lot of such dog foods that you can prepare for your dog. Instead of having to buy the food for your dog, why not just make it yourself at home? In this article, we are going to look at some of best homemade dog food recipes.

The first one involves heating olive oil in a stockpot. Ground turkey is one of dogs favourite foods. It should be cooked until it changes colour to brown. You will know it is ready when you see that it is starts to crumble, usually in 3 or 5 minutes of cooking.

Add spinach, brown rice, zucchini, carrots and peas. The mixture is then heated and you will be good to go.

Peanut butter cookies

It is a well known fact that dogs love cookies. You can make some as long as you have ingredients. In this case, you should have flour, rolled oats, fish oil, honey and water. Of course the measurements will vary, depending on the number of dogs that you are preparing for what we call serving size.

The oven is first preheated before mixing the ingredients. The flour is the first to go together with the oats. The rest are thereafter added and then blended.

Water is then added to get a thick consistency. Next, you should prepare a cooking surface. The dough is then ready to be rolled. Of course you will need to have a sheet thick surface and the cookie cutter so that you can cut the various shapes of the cookies. The cookies will then be ready to be served to the dogs after sufficient cooling has taken place.

Chicken jerky

The third example of the homemade dog food recipes is the chicken turkey. Instead of feeding your dogs with raw hides that have been stored in stores for long, you can better serve this jerky meal. It is of course tough for the dogs to chew but hyoid keeps the dog occupied all the day long.

What do you need?

To get started, have the chicken breasts depending on the serving size. The oven needs to be pre-heated  and then of course the extra fat on the breasts is not good; just scrape it off. Now you can cut it up  into strips. These strips are the ones that are set on the baking sheet and baked.

Once you are certain that it is dry, hard and chewy, know that it is ready to be eaten. This is then stored in a freezer for some weeks after cooling it. Your dogs will love it!
